■ LS ELECTRIC signed a multi-party agreement with Shinan-gun County, KHNP, and other parties on developing a renewable power grid model and complex.
■ A hybrid complex will be constructed that could generate 100 MW from solar power and wind power plants, with a battery-backed ESS system to be constructed to store surplus energy.
■ According to President Kim Jong-Woo, "We shall support energy conversion using our world best smart energy competencies.”
LS ELECTRIC will build a hybrid-type renewable energy complex for island areas through partnerships with Shinan-gun County, KHNP, and other parties.
On November 4, LS ELECTRIC announced that it had signed the ‘Agreement on Developing a Renewable Electric Power Grid Model and Complex for Realizing Carbon Neutrality in Island Areas and Improving the Efficiency of the Electric Power Grid’. The contracting parties to the agreement included Shinan-gun County, KHNP, Hyundai Glovis, NH International, Mokpo MBC, and other parties.
The signing ceremony was attended by around 50 people, notably President Kim Jong-Woo of LS ELECTRIC, Governor Park Woo-Ryang of Shinan-gun County, President Hwang Joo-Ho of KHNP, CEO Kim Jung-Hoon of Hyundai Glovis, CEO Kim Ho-Seok of NH International, and President Lee Soon-Yong of Mokpo MBC. The attendees held discussions on how they should cooperate with each other to ensure success in the project.
Along with KHNP, Hyundai Glovis, and other parties involved, LS ELECTRIC will take charge of the renewable energy power plant project for Shinan-gun County in 3 stages.
The 1st stage will be a period for pilot testing a renewable combined power plant complex (namely, solar power, wind power, used battery, salinity gradient power/ seawater desalination) that will be connected to the internal combustion engines (diesel) in island areas of Shinan-gun County that have an independent power system. In the 2nd stage, a 100MW hybrid (namely, solar power + wind power + green hydrogen + used battery) power generation complex will be constructed. This will be a power plant capable of producing electricity and hydrogen in both directions. The 3rd stage will be dedicated to developing technologies for utilizing marine energy such as salinity gradient power.
In addition, to utilize large-scale renewable combined power plants more effectively, the parties involved agreed to cooperate on developing technologies for constructing a stable operating system and improving the efficiency of transmission lines (based on research on optimizing systems that connect power transmission lines).
President Kim Jong-Woo of LS ELECTRIC announced, “We were able to lead this project owing to the credibility we earned through successfully executing renewable plant construction projects, notably the Bigeum Community Solar Power Plant which is the largest solar power plant in the country. We will produce business results in all areas of the smart energy value chain, focused on solar power, wind power, and green hydrogen, while producing tangible outcomes in energy conversion in this era of carbon neutrality.”
