■ A delegation headed by the Thai ambassador in South Korea visited the company’s Smart Factory in Cheongju to discuss business cooperation.
■ Increased demand to integrate the company’s world-class smart factory technologies by ASEAN countries like Thailand could be expected.

LS ELECTRIC hosted a visit by a delegation from the Embassy of Thailand in South Korea that included the Thai ambassador and officials from some of the leading conglomerates in Thailand. The visitors were given a presentation of LS ELECTRIC’s smart factory technologies and afterward, both sides discussed business cooperation.

On November 3, South Korea’s Thai ambassador Witchu Vejjajiva and SCG President Nithi Patarachoke visited LS ELECTRIC’s Cheongju factory. They toured the world-class facility with Choi Soon-hong, the executive advisor to the company. Afterward, they held discussions on ways of cooperating in business and technology areas.

Established in 1913, SCG is the 2nd largest business group in Thailand with its main business lines in construction, chemicals, and packaging.

At the Cheongju Factory Unit G, LS ELECTRIC deployed an automation system across the entire production line for all its products from components to low-pressure electric devices. The system covers all the steps from assembly to testing and packaging. Unit G is regarded as the most advanced smart factory in South Korea. In 2021, when Unit G was named by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as an ‘industry-leading factory’, LS ELECTRIC became only the second South Korean company to receive the recognition.

Cho Wook-dong, a managing director from LS ELECTRIC who guided the delegation during the tour on that day, gave this explanation, “The deployment of a smart factory has brought us numerous financial and operational benefits. For example, our production efficiency has increased by 40%, downtime declined by 68%, and expenses related to quality declined by 76%.”

He went on by adding, "By combining ICT with automation technologies, smart factory technologies make it possible to use the production system flexibly. Diverse product categories could be mass-produced and diverse product categories could be produced in tailored, limited batches. We look forward to the adoption of smart factory technologies by ASEAN countries like Thailand." He concluded, “Through cooperation not only in technology development but also the business development side, LS ELECTRIC can contribute significantly to transforming the factories of leading ASEAN companies into industry-leading factories.”->industry 4.0-leading factories.

SCG President Nithi Patarachoke commented, “This was a great opportunity to see in person South Korea’s top smart factory and energy solutions. We will be able to explore many business opportunities in Thailand with LS ELECTRIC.”

As a side note, last year in May, LS ELECTRIC invited members of the ASEAN Committee in Seoul (ACS) to its Cheongju factory and held business discussions on smart factories. ACS is made up of 10 ambassadors to South Korea from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
